Anatomy/Gift/Association was pleased to premier its exhibition space with new work by Chicago based artist Jeff Austin. The exhibition included a number of Mr. Austin’s recent wooden constructions assembled during his time at ACRE Residency this summer; sculptural wall hangings embellished with ephemera from the artist’s recent past and travels through the American West.

Jeff Austin (b.1988) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Chicago, IL. Ironic but richly aesthetic, Mr. Austin’s work is wrought with subtle juxtapositions of diverse content that contend with a culture in crisis while maintaining the language of the shamanistic and mystical. The play with light, the frozen moment and the considered exploration of material seek order, pattern and purpose in the moment where all those qualities are illusive or absent. Mr. Austin’s work often employs a simple, elegant gesture to bring to light a transcendental quality at work even in a society in turmoil. Mr. Austin attends The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, and was a 2012 ACRE resident.
