As part of AGA’s longstanding mission to present new sites and formulate within the Chicago arts scene, a series of performances occurred in the vacated fields between 15th st. and 13th st. in Pilsen. These actions examined the effect of misplacement, the action of displaced energies, the ties between community and space, the sanctity of nature and the experience of that within an urban environment.

This event was Hosted by Kiam Marcelio Junio and featured himself, Dove Drury-Hornbuckle, Joshua Roginsky, Cathy Kim and Jacqueline Renee Friedberg.

This May, Anatomy/Gift/Association was pleased to premier new work by Marina Miliou-Theocharaki.

Marina had spent the month of April as a resident at A/G/A’s headquarters and work space in Pilsen. Over the last year, she has developed an ongoing research project and studio practice which investigates the continuing political crisis in Greece and the European Union overall. Her time at A/G/A has been a continuation of this project. Marina, a Greek national, has traveled periodically between the US and Greece as the crisis has escalated. Marina’s work manifests in a variety of forms: performance, video, installation and writing. As documentarian, humanitarian and activist, Marina’s work is devoted to an unapologetic interrogation of the political forces which have precipitated crisis in Europe and abroad. Marina is currently completing her senior year at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, where she is a candidate for the BFA/BA-VCS.

Once upon a time, The Cabaret Cabaret took place in living rooms and basements. Cigarettes were taken on the back porch and conversations in the kitchen. Collin Pressler wrote his set list on the back of an old greeting card or napkin as Cassidy Stock could be seen fixing Nachos for the guests. Kiam Marcelo Junio did his makeup in the restroom, and Dove Drury Hornbuckle unpacked suitcases full of lavishly patterned ropes and ribbons in the foyer where Joshua Roginsky could be seen on the couch finishing his words in the few minutes before showtime. And then came Chelsey with a shopping cart full of ethnic foods. We still remember the sound it made on the cracked Pilsen sidewalk. There was a unique energy to the early days of Anatomy/Gift/Association’s The Cabaret Cabaret. Its quickness, its chaos and its vitality. For this show, we sought to bring a little bit of that back- for old times’ sake. A/G/A hosted The Cabaret Cabaret at Fancy House: A/G/A headquarters and the venue of its origins in Pilsen.

This event featured performance work by Dove Drury Hornbuckle, Cassidy Stock, Joshua Roginsky, Collin Pressler, Jacqueline Friedberg, Chelsey Sprengeler, Poy Born and Tyler Lumm.

“A memorable one night stand. A familiar hand, in an unfamiliar place.”

The Cabaret Cabaret has acted as the initial common ground between the organizers of both A/G/A and Alcatraz Chicago: a place to be rude and observe, think and mingle. This event marked the much anticipated collaboration between our two operations, a retrospective of performances put on throughout the Cabaret’s 2012 run. Collin Pressler emcee’d, and the evening’s performers included Joshua Roginsky, Chelsey Sprengeler, Dove Drury-Hornbuckle, Kiam Marcelo Junio, Poy Born, Rough White / Gentle Black, and Alec Hatcher. A special thanks to Alec Hatcher and Andrea Chiu, the gallerists of Alcatraz Chicago.

“Dinner is dead. Long live new beginnings. Long live the ‘soft reset.’ Long live the revolutionary spirit. Long live optimism. Long live the chickenless egg.”

Anatomy/Gift/Association  was pleased to host an exceptional evening  organized by guest curator Poy Born for “the elevation of breakfast, the meal of farthest chronological remove from dinner, by foregrounding it both conceptually and culinary, and a simultaneous and corresponding lowering of dinner.”
